I've put up a dedicated server for Mayhem Intergalactic, called Mayhem Central. It should run 24/7 unless the server gets rebooted or some other calamity occurs. This way you can get together for a game without needing to bother about setting up port forwarding. In the event that the server goes down, malfunctions, doesn't show up on the in-game internet games list, is running unusually slowly, etc., let me know and I'll attempt to fix it ASAP.

Back up. Someone had managed to crash it by starting a broken map which I'd accidentally uploaded (one without sufficient planets to support a game with more than one or two players).

I've had some reports of people abusing the dedicated servers to play singleplayer games against the AI. Please don't. It's fine to play against AI if you're waiting for other people to show up, but please surrender and start a new game once a human opponent arrives. It's not fair to keep people waiting. Server started up again (it crashed), and I've added a second one in case there are issues with the first one.

I suggest as a dedicated server feature to add it so peeps can take over where AI are...if they join while a game is in progress...that way as to eliminate the issue of peeps abusing servers for SP play...

Good Idea, sometime it is interesting simply add a friend to play even if we are playing with some others friends. Fabio

It's been suggested before, and it's not a bad idea. It would create an opportunity for griefing which needs considering. (Player logs in, takes over an AI, then logs out, leaving that former AI player completely dormant - unless you re-enable the AI when a player logs out, but that would be kind of weird if the player then logs in again - what did that silly AI do to my empire??? )

Chris you make a good point but then you have to ask yourself in the first place..."Why did the user leave in the first place...it technically is no one's fault except theirs...so the idea in my opinion still would be a good 1...

If they did it voluntarily, yes. In most cases however, if they return then that means they probably didn't mean to leave in the first place. Maybe they crashed, or their internet connection dropped out, or the cat chewed through the network cable. Still, I think you're right that the positives outweigh the potential issues.

The server is up, but unavilable for play. Just needs to be rebooted, the thread I made has more specifics.

Chris you make a good point but then you have to ask yourself in the first place..."Why did the user leave in the first place...it technically is no one's fault except theirs...so the idea in my opinion still would be a good 1... Boris has a really bad connection at his house. To the point where he drops every turn and must return. I think one of MIG's best features is that it allows people to return, especially when network connections can be as shaky as they are when you're playing with people on other continents.

Given how dodgy networking can get sometimes, I figured that was an essential feature.
