But don't tell me this doesn't look awesome! (I was just messing around with replacing some image files, and liked how this looked. Might keep it as my background.)

I too did a mod this afternoon... I replaced all my ships with recolors of The Planet Express ships (examples below)
If you'd like the rest of them reply and I can upload more.

Also consider this an informal request for a Mods section.

Lets see if anyone else likes making sprites first. I'm gonna try to get a friend of mine in on this. If hes willing to help, we might be able to put some conversion packs together.

Hey Chris, do we HAVE to make the ships this small? Will the game break if they're bigger? Will anything break if it's bigger?

I'm assuming that you'll get clipping issues, but the background I put on the title screen is two monitors wide. (2700X1318) So at least the background images scale. I'm wonderign about how to replace the hexgrid background though.

That is pretty awesome. Colour of the title clashes a bit, but oh well. You can make the ship graphics as high-resolution as you like, but unfortunately they'll always display at the same size. The same applies to just about everything else, in fact. The in-game background with the hex grid on it is data\base\graphics\nebula256.png. (Why is it called that? Erm, well... it's historical. Which is another way of saying "no good reason"!) Note that it's actually a square image which gets stretched into a 4:3 aspect ratio. If the game is being run in any other aspect ratio (e.g. widescreen), it takes a centre-cut (after stretching to 4:3).

You can make the ship graphics as high-resolution as you like, but unfortunately they'll always display at the same size. The same applies to just about everything else, in fact. Unfortuanetly? Thats a good thing. I was talking to Can about a TC graphics pack. No more details except on a need-to-know basis =D The in-game background with the hex grid on it is data\base\graphics\nebula256.png. (Why is it called that? Erm, well... it's historical. So if I wanted an ocean background, I could make it any size as long as the borders blend? Hypothetically of course. Oh and Chris, I wanted to ask you about some stuff, is it possible for you to get on steam tonight? (thats the next 4 hours here =D)

I've rebadged both the custom maps forums to indicate that they can also be used for mods in general. If we start getting a lot of mod talk, then I'll grant it a forum of its very own.
