Title: Known problems with some internet filtering and antivirus software Post by: Chris on March 01, 2009, 03:15:27 am I've received a report that Mayhem Intergalactic will crash when trying to access multiplayer functionality if the internet filtering application Safe Eyes is installed (even if Safe Eyes is "disabled"). As of now the only known workaround is to completely uninstall Safe Eyes.
It's possible that other internet filtering, internet security, and antivirus software may have similar effects, though I haven't yet received such reports. Please note that even when such software is "disabled", it still remains hooked in to the system and can still cause issues. If you suspect that an application of this kind is interfering with Mayhem Intergalactic, try temporarily uninstalling it for troubleshooting purposes. I do not recommend browsing the internet or checking email while your filtering/security/antivirus applications are disabled; if you do uninstall them for testing purposes, you should re-install them as soon as your troubleshooting session is complete. If you do discover that one of these applications is causing Mayhem Intergalactic to crash, please let me know and I'll document the problem here. However, since the crash isn't caused by Mayhem Intergalactic, I won't be able to fix it; to have the problem resolved, I recommend contacting the app's technical support and reporting the bug. I'm happy to work with application developers to resolve these issues. Applications known to not be a problem include AVG Free 8.0 (I use it myself, though with that pesky LinkScanner nonsense disabled). |
